If we’re honest, we’d all but forgotten about the Mitsubishi Lancer, with the exception of the World Rally Championship-honed Evo of course. It’s probably something of an oversight on our part though, as the 2.0 GLS sedan has long offered fair value in the C-segment.
Further confirmation of this has come from Mitsubishi who’ve announced a number of important and value-add features to the Lancer.
There are no changes in interior or exterior appearance of the Lancer, but the addition of Bluetooth, seven airbags, a reversing camera and touch screen interface for the sound system, only serve to bolster the sedan’s appeal. Most significantly, however, these added benefits come at no extra cost to the car’s current price of R239 900.
“We listened to our customers in terms of specification improvements they wanted to see on Lancer and now we are pleased that we have been able to bring a much-improved medium-size car to market in South Africa,” said the CEO of Mitsubishi Motors SA, Jaco Oosthuizen.
The new features add to an equipment list that already includes: air conditioning; a multi-function steering wheel; voice control; keyless entry and alarm-immobiliser; auto-on/off headlamps; ABS; EBD with brake-assist; front fog lamps.
The Mitsubishi Lancer continues to be powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine that delivers 110 kW at 6 000 r/min and 197 Nm of torque at 4 200 r/min. Drive is through a 5-speed manual transmission and average fuel consumption is a claimed 7.0 l/100km.
The Lancer also rides on 16-inch alloy wheels (optional 18-inch available) and independent suspension, both in front and at the rear, which Mitsubishi says contributes to good ride quality and road holding.
The Mitsubishi Lancer is covered by a 3-year/100 000km warranty and a 5-year/100 000km service plan.
