Airbumps get second chance in new Citroen C3

Guess who’s back, back again… Citroen’s airbumps are back. You know, the soft jelly-like abnormalities that prevent the shopping mall bumps and serve another purpose of toughening the car’s exterior. The next model to feature the airbumps, after the Cactus C4, is the new Citroen C3.

Xavier Peugeot, Citroen’s director of product planning, told Auto Express: “We need to bring some key elements of the new Citroen design, based on Cactus, for the next generation. “You need to tell a story to your customers. You need to send them signals which bring a kind of coherence. “I am not saying we will keep all aspects of the Airbumps, but there are different ways of using such ingredients to create this coherence in the near future, and we have been working on it.”

Influenced by the C4 Cactus and the electric e-Mehari (which won’t be sold in SA) the new Citroen C3 is on the brink of Citroen’s foray into hybrid technology. Speaking again to Auto Express, Xavier commented, “You can’t try to pass on the message of a feel-good mindset and comfort without being connected to such advanced technical solutions which will bring a reduction of noise and more comfortable use. There will be at least one additional electric model within the Citroen range.”

Citroen C3 with airbumps? Yea we can get on board with that, will help the brand differentiate itself and they’re more functional than you first think. A 2016 reveal at the Paris Motor Show from 1-16 October.
