Infiniti unleashes 298kW V6 for next Q50 and Q60

Infiniti’s infamous V6 engine is being upgraded! The Nissan Motors Iwaki Plant in Japan began production of the new twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 unit, which is exclusively offered on Infiniti vehicles.

Designed with efficiency and economy in mind, the new V6 engine is the lightest, most powerful and most fuel-efficient V6 engine that Infiniti has ever used in a vehicle, optimised to supply the best power and torque for an engine of its size.

The twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 will be available in two performance levels – a lower-spec 223kW unit and a more premium 298kW unit. The first model to adopt the engine in the Infiniti range will be the 2016 Infiniti Q50 sports sedan. The new engine, along with upgraded technology will deliver more enthralling performance and a more fulfilling driving experience in the Q50. This is crucial to the Q50 considering that it will be facing stiff competition from the Germans in the form of the new Audi A4 and updated BMW 3-series.

The new engine will also be available in the voluptuous new Infiniti Q60 sports coupe. With performance running through its veins and advanced technology imbedded in its DNA, the Q60 is well-prepared for battle in the illustrious sports coupe segment, dominated by the out-dated Audi A5 and the BMW 4-Series.

“Infiniti is in the middle of a major product offensive, significantly expanding and refreshing our product portfolio. With the new V6 engine, Infiniti vehicles will become even more powerful and more fun to drive,” said François Goupil de Bouillé, Vice President of Infiniti Europe, Middle East and Africa. “The experienced team at the Iwaki Plant will deliver the engines with the highest levels of quality for our customers across our EMEA region and around the world.”

This is quite a strategic move for Infiniti amid the storm of new models coming in from Germany, but they just might be able to pull this one off, especially with their wildcard; the Infiniti Q60.
