Audi Reveal All-Electric Vision GT Concept

The world is going electric whether we like it or not, and from here on out it’s ‘adapt or die’. Audi is one of many manufacturers that has hinted at an imminent electrification of their RS performance models. This may not be such a bad idea after the reveal of their latest concept, the all-electric Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo.

The concept was originally developed to feature on the latest update of Gran Turismo on the PlayStation 4, although Audi has actually gone ahead and built a fully-functioning prototype of the concept. The prototype will make its global debut later this month as a Formula E hot-lap car for Audi guests and customers, allowing these individuals the opportunity to ride shotgun on some of the greatest circuits in the world in some of the best cities.

Peter Mertens, member of the board of management for Audi’s technical development, told media that the main objective in mind when developing the car for the Gran Turismo game was to have a fully functional car at the end of the project. “The Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo shows that electric mobility at Audi is very emotive. This car incorporates numerous elements of our new design language, such as the inverted single-frame grille in the vehicle’s colour that will be typical for our new e-tron models.”

The Audi e-tron Vision GT is a technological wonderland. It features a quattro permanent all-wheel drive system with power supplied by three electric motors. Two motors power the rear axle, while a single motor powers the front axle. Each motor will supply the Vision GT with 200kW of power, resulting in a total output of 600kW.

Pair this clever technology with a car that weighs only 1450kg with a 50:50 weight distribution and the result is a track-tearing missile that will do 0-100km/h in less than 2.5-seconds.
