Mercedes Confirms New 2011 C-Class Coupe
Posted on 02 April 2010 by Scott Hayes
Mercedes as confirmed that a new C-Class Coupe is set to join its vehicle line-up when model range receives its mid-cycle update next year.
Those in the market for a smaller coupe are currently limited to the CLC-Class, a re-styled version of the previous generation C-Class Sport Coupe – itself a three-door liftback rather than a true coupe. With the older architecture underneath approaching its development limitations, the CLC will be phased out, replaced by the new coupe which is to be built atop the current highly-regarded C-class platform. The new coupe will add another option for ‘lifestyle’ purchasers, joining the recently released Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe (which has taken the place of the previous CLK two-door).
Peter Schabert, Head of the Mercedes-Benz plant at Bremen in Germany, confirmed the plans this week. “The decision by the Board of Management to produce the Coupe version of the current C-Class here in Bremen as well represents another important milestone on our way to becoming Mercedes’ competence center for the C-Class and is a clear sign of the trust in the Bremen team’s capabilities and standards,” Mr Schabert said today.
Styling is expected to follow in the footsteps of its sedan sibling, with the obvious Coupe-specific differences. Mercedes-Benz has offered no details on the C-Class Coupe’s engines. Powerplants are expected to be shared across the C-Class range, including an AMG variant powered by the carmaker’s new 5,5-litre V8.
