The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupé has been confirmed by the Stuttgart automaker and will make its debut sometime in 2011. The model will be built at the company’s Bremen plant. News coming out of the UK now says that Mercedes-Benz is considering a C63 AMG Coupé that will compete with the likes of the BMW M3 and the Audi RS5.

The C63 AMG Coupé will debut shortly after the C-Class Coupé and will be powered by the company’s 6,2-litre V8 engine mated to a 7-speed MCT (multi-clutch transmission). The setup will also be used on the facelifted C63 sedan when is arrives sometime next year.

According an AMG source, the AMG Coupé was conceived as a direct rival to the Audi RS5 and BMW M3. “We’re looking to up the power beyond that of today’s C63 AMG. It’s safe to say it will be the most powerful of the three,” the AMG source said.
Rumours suggest that Mercedes-Benz may even release a C63 AMG Coupé Black Series!

Mercedes as confirmed that a new C-Class Coupe is set to join its vehicle line-up when model range receives its mid-cycle update next year.
Those in the market for a smaller coupe are currently limited to the CLC-Class, a re-styled version of the previous generation C-Class Sport Coupe – itself a three-door liftback rather than a true coupe. With the older architecture underneath approaching its development limitations, the CLC will be phased out, replaced by the new coupe which is to be built atop the current highly-regarded C-class platform. The new coupe will add another option for ‘lifestyle’ purchasers, joining the recently released Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe (which has taken the place of the previous CLK two-door).

Peter Schabert, Head of the Mercedes-Benz plant at Bremen in Germany, confirmed the plans this week. “The decision by the Board of Management to produce the Coupe version of the current C-Class here in Bremen as well represents another important milestone on our way to becoming Mercedes’ competence center for the C-Class and is a clear sign of the trust in the Bremen team’s capabilities and standards,” Mr Schabert said today.
Styling is expected to follow in the footsteps of its sedan sibling, with the obvious Coupe-specific differences. Mercedes-Benz has offered no details on the C-Class Coupe’s engines. Powerplants are expected to be shared across the C-Class range, including an AMG variant powered by the carmaker’s new 5,5-litre V8.
