Porsche’s Special 911 China Anniversary Edition

Posted on 30 May 2011 by SACarFan

Porsche has revealed a special edition 911 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Porsche’s presence in China. Called the Porsche 911 Turbo S China 10th Anniversary Edition, the car features a unique gold colour scheme inside and out as well as various detail revisions.

The first element you’ll notice about the car is of course that bold gold exterior colour, but it’s also contrasted by a number of carbon fibre highlights. There’s a carbon bonnet, rear spoiler and headlight surrounds. These match the black 19-inch Sport Classic alloy wheels. Beneath the rear hatch lies the standard 911 Turbo S engine and PDK driveline package, not that there’s anything ‘standard’ about it in the first place. It’s a 3.8-litre twin-turbo engine producing 390 kW of power and 700 N.m of torque. It allows the car to sprint from 0 – 100km/h in just 3.3 seconds.

Inside, the 10th Anniversary Edition is completed in various carbon fibre inserts, new Alcantara seats and an Alcantara Sport Classic steering wheel. Special stitching and logos also make their way inside. Just 10 of these special edition China Anniversary cars will go on sale in China, all of which are expected to sell very quick. The cars are sure to be highly-desirable and extremely rare classics in the future.

Posted on 24 March 2011 by SACarFan

If you can afford the €645 000 price tag for an 918 Spyder, chances are you won’t blink an eye at whatever Porsche is asking for its 911 Turbo S ‘Edition 918 Spyder’, which is being offered exclusively to those that place an order for its upcoming plug-in hybrid supercar. As you would expect, production of the special edition 911s is limited to 918 units worldwide.

The limited edition 911 Turbo S series is cosmetically inspired by the 918 Spyder and will be available in both coupe and convertible body styles. While keeping the standard model’s 390 kW-strong flat-six turbo intact, the special edition gets distinctive acid green features such as the brake calipers, specific and part-embroidered model logos and seams, the instrument cluster needles, the bespoke PCM screen and illuminated door entry guards.

In the special edition, the 911 Turbo S’ standard equipment is complemented by an enhanced leather interior, a special instrumentation version and additional carbon elements both inside and out. In addition, there’s a limited edition badge on the glove compartment lid that bears the same number as the 918 Spyder the customer has ordered, while the two cars can be finished in the same exact color.

Porsche USA’s suggested retail prices for the 911 Turbo S Edition 918 Spyder Coupe and Cabriolet versions are the same as the standard Turbo S models, which means anyone is South Africa could expect to pay R2.16- and R2.26-million respectively. First deliveries of the 911 Turbo S Edition 918 Spyder will commence in June 2011.

Posted on 09 February 2010 by Scott Hayes

Not long after the latest 911 Turbo has been introduced, the engineers at Porsche have developed a new, more powerful and faster 911 Turbo S. The turbocharged Porsche flat-six at the heart of this new model, has been tuned to produce 390 kW, 22 kW more than the ‘standard’ 911 Turbo and boasts a whopping 700 N.m of torque. At the same time this new top model comes as standard with all high-tech components available only as options on the 911 Turbo.

Porsche claim that despite its significant increase in power, the new 911 Turbo S does not consume any more fuel than the Porsche 911 Turbo, at 11.4 l/100km.

The 911 Turbo S comes exclusively with Porsche’s seven-speed Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) gearbox, conveying drive power to Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive. Driving safety has been raised to an even higher standard, with the use of dynamic engine mounts and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), including a mechanical differential lock on the rear axle. In conjunction with launch control on the Sport Chrono Package, the 911 Turbo S accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and reaches 200 km/h in 10.8 seconds. Top speed is 315 km/h. Extra-light and fading-resistant Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) ensure excellent stopping power.

The level of standard equipment, including Dynamic Bending Lights; 19-inch wheels in RS Spyder design with central locking; adaptive sports seats; exclusive twin-tone leather upholstery in Black/Crema or Black/Titanium Blue, underlines the premium nature of this, the first Turbo S in five years, over the standard 911 Turbo.

The 911 Turbo S is now on par with the mighty GT2. The Turbo S boasts 20 N.m more torque and a 0-100 km/h time some 0.4 seconds faster. The GT2 still reigns in out right speed however, at 329 km/h. Expect Porsche to drop their new 3,8-litre capacity boxer engine into the GT2 soon, to keep it firmly at the head of the chasing 911 pack.

The Porsche Turbo S will debut at this years Geneva motor Show and go on sale in Europe shortly thereafter. South African pricing and availability dates are not yet confirmed.
