Limited to only 333 units, Audi’s A1 Quattro harks back to Audi’s rallying heyday of the 1980s with aggressive competition based styling, a powerful turbocharged engine and the latest in four-wheel drive technology, together with a heavily reworked interior boasting all the sporting bling to back up its impressive mechanical specification.
The Audi A1 Quattro is a compact all-wheel drive, featuring a 2.0T FSI engine that’s good for 188 kW. It has a 0 – 100 km/h sprint time of 5.7 seconds, a top speed of 245 km/h and a fuel economy of 8.4 L/100km. The engine’s power is channeled through a standard six-speed manual gearbox and a Haldex style multi-plate clutch four-wheel drive system, which Audi has been tuned specifically for the A1 Quattro. Also included is an electronically controlled differential lock that automatically applies brake pressure to spinning wheels to improve traction.
Exterior highlights include the obvious Glacier White paint (the only colour available) the deep front bumper, red-tinted headlights, sill extensions, twin exhaust pipes, the big rear wing and white alloy wheels. There are 225/35 R18 tyres all round, 312 mm front brakes clamped by black callipers, and a three-stage ESP system with a Sport mode and a you’re-on-your-own setting. Inside there’s a red rev counter, and red stitching to contrast with the black Nappa leather. The first customer cars will be delivered in the second half of 2012.
