Finally! After many appearances in concept form, from various locations and motor shows around the world, the Ford Fiesta ST is finally with us in its final specification at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.
The hottest model in the Fiesta range is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged EcoBoost engine rated at 132 kW and 240 Nm of torque. It is matched to a six-speed manual gearbox that drives the front wheels. Ford says that the new ST will complete the 0 – 100 km/h sprint in under 7 seconds and reach a top speed of more than 220 km/h. Thanks to the smaller capacity engine, the 2012 Ford Fiesta ST alos puts out 20 percent less CO2 than the previous generation.
Developed by Ford’s Team RS, the Fiesta ST gets a specially tuned chassis that sits 15 mm lower than the standard Fiesta. Torque Vectoring Control and three electronic stability control modes contribute to significant ride and handling improvements, proven over more than 5 000 km of testing on the Nurburgring.
Along with the sport exterior, interior equipment includes Recaro sports seats, SYNC voice-activated in-car connectivity system and MyKey, which allows owners to limit the car’s performance when less experienced drivers are behind the wheel.
Sales of the new Fiesta ST are expected to begin in Europe in late 2012 or early 2013.
