This is the second tuned version of the Volkswagen T5 Caravelle we’ve come across in recent weeks. MTM revealed their 350 kW VW T5 prior to the Geneva Motor Show and now, another well known German tuner has followed suit. Abt Sportsline has presented a new tuning program that includes both styling and performance enhancements for the VW bus.
Abt offers an engine kit for all European-market diesel versions of the T5 starting with the 61 kW engine that’s bumped to 81 kW and continues with the 75 kW unit that gets a nudge to 96 kW, and the 2.0-litre TDI with 103 kW that’s boosted to 125 kW.
On the petrol engine front, the stock 147 kW 2.0-litre TSI now makes 176 kW allowing the 5.5-meter long van to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds.
To handle the extra power, the van has been gifted with a sports suspension and a set of 19-inch wheels. Aerodynamic enhancements include a new front grille, side skirts, a rear bumper that incorporates quad tailpipes, as well as a rear spoiler.
While not as aggressive a tuning program as MTM, the performance updates for the full range of engines, together with tasteful styling tweaks, make the Abt T5 a far more relevant prospect for VW T5 owners.
