BMW M4 Competition Package slots below GTS
If you’re too late in putting your name next to a BMW M4 GTS worry not because BMW has just announced that a Competition Package will be made available for the latest BMW M3 and BMW M4. Based on what we’ve seen with the M5 and M6 Competition Spec models, this will be a tyre-shredder of the very finest calibre.
The news was announced by Frank van Meel who heads up BMW’s Performance Division but he didn’t elaborate on the specific details other than to say that the package will still allow the cars to be enjoyed under many different roles.
Applying what we know of other BMW Competition models, we can reasonably assume that power will most likely be lifted through new engine mapping and exhaust to a figure just below the GTS’s 372kW and that stiffer springs and dampers, possibly even lighter alloys and semi slicks will expand the dynamic bounds of the BMW. With the current M4 featuring its fair amount of carbon fibre, BMW might continue to look at small ways of lowering the Competition spec’s weight.
Different badges, sills and possibly more Alcantara could adorn the cabin and some optional equipment not available on the standard car could help push that price up – with BMW Competition versions usually adding R200 000 to the price, BMW M4 Competition could cost close to R1.4 million.
