All-wheel drive KIA Telluride is intimidating
KIA hit all the right notes at the Detroit Motor Show with the butch Telluride concept which will compete in the large SUV segment synonymous with the American market. Another market that favours large SUVs is South Africa, meaning the KIA Telluride has a fair chance of coming here where it would most naturally compete above the KIA Sorento.
The 5-metre long KIA Telluride sits on 22-inch alloys (sized for show) spaced 2 metres apart and driven by a direct injection 3.5-litre V6 mated to electric motors, endowing the SUV with all-wheel drive. KIA Telluride should be powerful too with a claimed 200kW of combustion power and 96kW harvested from the electric gubbins.
Strong visuals aside the KIA Telluride has innovations on the practicality front with suicide rear doors for easy access to the three rows of seats which can be dropped flat to take full advantage of the car’s enormous length. A touchscreen and wireless charging are the only entertainment features confirmed at the time.
