Official pics: Volvo V90 moves out the box

Is it already Valentines Day because lovers of all things Swedish and SUV can sense cupid’s work on the new Volvo V90, a week before its original reveal date. Thanks Internet!

As the naming does suggest, Volvo V90 is based on the S90 sedan and rounder styling sees to it that the new car has a less boxy and angular design than the V70, which this car essentially replaces. While most of our early motoring memories are founded by boxy Volvo estates, this modern styling is easy on the eyes and should open up the range to a new group of buyers while at the same time being unmistakably Volvo.

Although the drivetrain has yet to be completely formalized, the Volvo V70 will comprise a few hit favourites like the 407hp T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid (coming to SA in the XC90 later this year) and the smaller 320hp 2.0-litre turbo petrol. The diesel SUV market will be pleased to learn that the 235hp 2.0-litre is on the cards.

By the time the car makes that highly anticipated official reveal at next month’s Geneva Motor Show we’ll have more clarity on the details.
