Rimac Concept One is yours for R18 million

The world’s first all-electric supercar is here and it has over 745 kilowatts! Croatian start-up Rimac Automobili is set to unveil the production version of the Concept_One hypercar at the Geneva Motor Show.

The all-electric hypercar features four permanent magnetic electric motors, one for each wheel, in the middle of both axles. As one would imagine, four motors should produce a rather large amount of power and torque. How much exactly? How does 811 kilowatts and 1600Nm of torque sound? The exclusive Rimac All Wheel Torque Vectoring system determines the optimum torque output for each wheel and utilises precise sensors strategically positioned around the chassis and suspension to deliver optimal torque distribution.

The Concept_One can hit 100km/h in just 2.6 seconds, 200km/h in just 6.2 seconds, and 300km/h in a staggering 14.2 seconds. Carbon ceramic brakes work in tandem with a four-wheel regenerative braking system to bring the Concept_One to a stop. The Rimac Infotainment system processes data from over 500 sensors on the vehicle to display on the central screen in real time. This information is stored on the vehicles internal memory and is simultaneously sent to a cloud storage facility via a high-speed 4G Internet link to be analysed on the infotainment screen or on your PC or smartphone.

The interior features handcrafted material for the physical buttons, machined from billet aluminium with the bespoke infotainment system that was developed and manufactured in-house.

Secondary functions are controlled on the touchscreen such as the Concept_One’s driver settings. Interestingly, these settings can be changed from calm and relaxing, to a hardcore drift mode. Yes, you read that correct! Move over, LaFerrari. There’s a new drift king.

The Concept_One will be limited to 8 production models and is expected to cost over R18 million. The Concept_One is an extreme, yet realistic, example of the potential that can be found in electric cars. Hopefully this car will lay the foundation for future models, showing that electric cars can be fun.
