Brabus claims to improve handling of Model S

Elon Musk has the controlling persona that would usually prevent tuning houses from interfering with one of his cars. With or without Elon’s consent, Brabus has developed an exterior kit for the Model S but has wisely chosen not to try and improve the electronics that underpin the car’s wanton performance.

Known largely for its involvement with Mercedes Benz, Brabus first acquainted itself with the Tesla brand back in 2008 when the roadster was shown at the Essen Motor Show.  Amongst those cosmetic changes was a sound symposer which Brabus said added a sense of speed to the car… an idea that has since been incorporated into the majority of sports cars.

The Brabus P90D is respectful of Tesla’s initial coupe design but believes the new aerodynamic kit, developed in the wind tunnel, improves performance and handling. Elon might differ.

Leaving the powertrain to those who know it best, Brabus now offers a couple of handling tweaks made mostly from carbon fibre. Designed with the help of CAD programs, the Brabus P90D gains a new rear diffuser, front spoiler and rocker panels. Multi-spoke alloy wheels fuse the design together.

Elon Musk must be a little annoyed that Brabus now offers wireless charging and heated/cooled cupholders for the Tesla P90D – the type of clever gems you would expect from an inventive company like Tesla – but we’re less convinced by the green leather interior.
