Wales is the new home of Aston Martin and TVR

And so the TVR revival continues well beyond our expectations with news that a new plant will be established in Wales. TVR expects the plant, situated in Ebbw Vale, to be operational by 2018.

TVR is the second British manufacturer to relocate here. Last month Aston Martin set up base less than 100 kilometres away from TVR’s new premises, in what has been labelled the new hub of automotive production.

The attraction behind the South of Wales isn’t immediately obvious but government incentives and existing infrastructure have been cited as factors. One could also point out that its proximity to the Circuit of Wales isn’t entirely by chance either.

That circuit may soon see Gordon Murray’s new sports car take a lap as one of the three new models planned for the TVR range. Not much is known about the new car other than it could be powered by the same 5.0-litre V8 found in the Mustang.

“This is a fantastic opportunity both for TVR and the Welsh government,” said Les Edgar, TVR Chairman. “South Wales is becoming a major hub for automotive and motorsport technology and development and I am delighted TVR is investing here.”

The new plant could create 150 jobs and with three new models set to join the range, TVR is expecting to produce 2000 cars by the year 2022.
