Speed restrictions lifted around the Nurburgring
Prepare to see manufactures resume their blind quest to build the fastest (insert type) car around the Nurburgring once more as speed restrictions, put in place last year, have been lifted.
And while it has been a period of calm where manufactures quietly go about their business and performance cars continue to be better than the next, the silence is sure to be broken and records will be smashed once more.
Remember this accident?
Jan Mardenborough’s Nissan GTR gets airborne, flips over the fence and kills a spectator while injuring four more, giving Nurburgring’s men in charge little option but to impose speed restrictions, despite protests from drivers who said it went against the circuit’s purpose.
The Nurburgring circuit has seen upgrades which management believe make it safer for drivers and spectators. Sections have been repaved and strong catch fencing installed in key areas.
The first VLN race – the same series Jan was racing in – will return to the Nurburgring on April 2nd while manufacturers can now rent the circuit for development purposes. Let the war begin.
