New Discovery Sport enhances bluetooth tech
The Land Rover Discovery Sport is one of the latest SUV’s out of Britain to receive a nip and tuck before 2017. The Freelander successor receives infotainment and in-car technology upgrades and is due in showrooms in the near future at the same starting price.
The bulk of the improvements are featured in the cabin of the Discovery Sport. A new 10.2” upgraded infotainment system, dubbed the ‘InControl Touch Pro’ is available as an optional extra over the standard 8.0” set-up for a clearer display. The user interface on the latest Jaguar Land Rover system is intended to replicate smartphone gestures, with users swiping between features and pinching to zoom on maps.
Another useful tech-upgrade comes in the form of ‘Tile’, a feature that uses micro Bluetooth tags on everyday items such as keys, wallets and phones to detect if users have all of their essential items with them. The application also warns users if they are at risk of forgetting an essential item. The Tile software is operated via the car’s touchscreen, but uses an app on Android and Apple smartphones to do the tracking. Land Rover claims that the average person spends 15 minutes per day searching for lost items – and that the Discovery Sport is the first car to offer Tile connectivity.
In addition to the plethora of in-car tech enhancements, the Discovery Sport receives new and innovative safety features; a drowsiness detection system will now come standard, together with an intelligent speed limiter that reads the road signs and prompts the driver to accept any change in speed limit, as well as camera-based lane departure tech that will gently steer the car back into the correct lane.
Exterior styling options include the Graphite Pack; a style kit which changes the entire ambience of the exterior design, featuring a Dark Atlas colour switch on the grille, bonnet script and side vents, a grey contrast roof and black side mirror caps, as well as a new set of fresh 19-inch alloy wheels.
Finally, there are four new body colours – Silicon Silver, Farallon Black, Carpathian Grey and Aruba.
