Launch Drive: New Kadjar offers EDC auto and turbo diesel

Three months after the South African launch, the 2016 Renault Kadjar Dynamique 4×2 model range has expanded to include Renault-developed EDC transmissions plus the globally acclaimed and proven 1.5 dCi 81kW Turbo diesel engine.

Of course, however, you still get a list of convenient features that come standard such as LED headlights, air quality control, ESP, ASR EBD and EBA which really work pretty fine should you happen to apply maximum brake pressure in an emergency situation.

Renault has expanded on its Dynamique 4×2 model range to include Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) auto transmissions as well the 1.5 dCi turbo diesel engine. With a starting price of R 399, 900 you get a 1.2-litre Turbo petrol EDC fitted with a 7-speed auto to yield 96kW/205Nm @ 1 750rpm or for a fatter price of R 414, 900, you can get the 1.5-litre Turbo dCi EDC 6-speed auto turning out 81k/250Nm @ 1 750rpm.

How was the drive?

Heading out to Magaliesburg, both models quickly demonstrated the added convenience of the auto. The drive and handling of the Renault Kadjar remains predictable and safe with good visibility and enough robustness to tackle pockmarked surfaces.

The EDC transmissions are great at multitasking but be aware that the diesel with the auto gearbox packs a pretty intrusive noise under hard acceleration. The petrol EDC Renault Kadjar will be great for long distances as it offered more power than its counterpart and also represents cheaper buying and running costs.

RENAULT WARRANTY PLUS SERVICE PLAN

The entire Renault Kadjar lineup comes standard with a 5-year/150 000km mechanical warranty and a 6-year anti-corrosion warranty. The range also comes standard with a 5-year/90 000km service plan. Services take place at 15 000km intervals.
