Zero emissions Mission E on course for 2020
We thought we might see Porsche’s Mission E make another appearance at this year’s Paris Motor Show (September) but the firm is busy cracking on with real world testing in a big effort to meet its 2020 launch date.
New pictures of the Mission E have emerged although many of the car’s complex drivetrain systems remain highly secretive. We’re still unclear whether the Mission E will leverage battery technology from Panasonic or Bosch – you can read that story here.
We do know that the car’s custom platform places the lithium-ion batteries for ideal weight distribution and that the range will exceed 482 kilometres. By contrast Tesla has since responded with a new 90kWh battery for its Model S P90D but at 435 kilometres, its range still falls short. Performance will be evenly matched with Porsche claiming a 0-100km/h time of 3.5 seconds.
Porsche’s first zero emissions is being developed by Stefan Weckbach and you may recognize him as the man responsible for heading up the development of the Porsche Boxster
