Budget Range Rover with 2.0 Ingenium engine
Would you consider buying a 2.0-litre Range Rover? It’s a brave decision and one that determines just how you value factors like environmental friendliness and fuel consumption. Let’s be honest, two considerations a typical Range Rover owners rarely thinks about.
In the UK, a 2.0-litre Range Rover will go on sale this year and with stricter emission regulations to be gazetted, other markets will be forced to follow. The small Ingenium engine has a claimed 6.2l/100km with Co2 emissions of 164g/km – the lowest and cleanest in Range Rover’s history. The Range Rover SD4 HSE is no slouch either with 0-100km/h happening in 8.0 seconds.
To sweeten the prospect of a base Range Rover, new features have been added despite its lower price point. Primary among these is the semi-autonomous Low Traction Launch which avails the correct amount of torque when traversing slippery sections at low speed. This is bolstered by autonomous emergency brake and blindspot assist (a fairly common feature nowadays.)
Fatigue detection is another not-so-new segment feature but nevertheless a first for Range Rover. The system monitors factors like steering input and journey time and will encourage the driver to rest if it feels concentration levels have dipped. The speed limiter function will ensure the legal speed is always maintained by reading road speed signs and adjusting throttle inputs.
Land Rover’s InControl Touch System gets a bigger 10.0-inch screen, divesting a cluttered array of interior buttons in the process. This is already one of the better systems but additional smartphone compatibility will keep it modern.
