VW could pull diesel engines from US market
Volkswagen is still feeling the effect of the emissions scandal with news that the German manufacturer could conclude sales of all diesel models in America.
According to a source in the Wall Street Journal reported that Hinrich Woebcken, head of Volkswagen’s American outfit, hinted that the automotive giant is undecided as to whether to bring diesels back to the American market.
After numerous lawsuits from legislators, as well as its own dealer network, Volkswagen took the decision to offer buy-back packages for owners in the USA – a move that has subsequently landed Volkswagen some criticism from other markets who feel entitled to the same. Despite their efforts for compensation, Volkswagen’s share in the USA fell 0.3% compared to 2015.
How does Volkswagen intend to make up the volume? The company’s investment into hybrid and electric vehicles will certainly wash well with the American population and meet those ever-stricter regulations. Demand for diesel engines is declining all on its own so this probably gives Volkswagen enough reason to pursue new trends in efficiency.
