It’s difficult to comprehend that the Lamborghini Aventador has been around for almost six years, let alone not ageing a single bit in that time.
This raging bull has climbed to the top of the supercar food chain and is arguably one of the best supercars of this generation, leaving the chaps at Lamborghini with a mammoth of a task – how to improve on perfection. A few prototypes and spy-shots later and it’s evident that they’ve managed to pull it off; they’ve even gone one step further by introducing a new model to the range. Enter the Lamborghini Aventador S.
A trademark application for the “Aventador S” name and badge has been found, confirming the speculation around the new model and its production. Additional spy-shots of a very heavily disguised, yet aggressive, Aventador prototype testing at the Nurburgring also add substance to these claims of a potential new model.
If we look back at the life-cycle of the Murcielago, predecessor to the Aventador, we notice that it was in production for nine years. The Aventador will most likely follow in these footsteps, meaning that a facelift is certainly imminent. We expect the Aventador S to spearhead the induction of this new look in, along with a modest boost to the 515kW produced by its 6.5-litre V12.
Lamborghini is yet to release official figures, but using the Aventador SV as a reference we can safely place the Aventador S in the 530kW region. A bump of 15kW seems appropriate and is not impossible, looking back at the 50 Anniversario Edition which squeezed the same amount of power out of its V12 powerplant.
The Aventador S will feature major aesthetic changes to differentiate itself from the regular models, including a completely redesigned front bumper (somewhat reminiscent to the Koenigsegg Regera) and SV inspired intakes sprouting out from the car’s shoulders at the rear. There’s also a new Centenario inspired lightweight diffusor that will house a large exhaust trio. We should hear more about the Aventador S in the second quarter of 2017.
