Dark ages as Hyundai adds 4-speed auto to latest i20
Hyundai bunches up its 2017 i20 model offering with the addition of an automatic gearbox to the existing 1.4-litre engine.
With a price tag of R249 900, the Hyundai i20 comes with a fairly standard set of features like Bluetooth, steering-mounted controls and USB.
“Customers are in for a surprise when they take it for a test drive, because Hyundai’s engineers have created a fine car with solid, surefooted dynamics on the road,” says Oscar Makola, marketing director of Hyundai Automotive South Africa.
“The addition of the new derivative creates another appealing option for the discerning buyer in this very competitive market segment.”
Power in the new i20 1.4 Motion Auto comes from its Kappa 1,4 litre engine that delivers 74kW at 6 000 r/min., with the torque output reaching its limit at 133Nm, delivered at 3 500 r/min. Power is delivered to the front wheels through a 4-speed automatic gearbox.
But why only a 4-speed automatic when 5 gears is the minimum these days? That does explain why Hyundai is quoting 7.5l/100km when the rest are claiming around 5l/100km. Another figure not to be proud of is the 160g/km…
