Extreme Festival kicks off this weekend
The SA Motorsport season kicks off this Saturday the 25th at Killarney Raceway in Cape Town with the first round of the 2017 Extreme Festival. It will also be the first time that the fast growing Super GP will be running alongside the Festival.
Lots of new drivers will line up but with most eyes on new VW Driver Search winner, Jonathan Mogotsi who graduated from a successful gaming career to VW Cup once and for all proving that gaming is a valid entry point into motorsport.
“We are also very pleased that our inaugural Volkswagen Driver Search programme from late last year is already proving to be successful. Shivesh Bissoon made his way into the series after partaking in the 2016 Driver Search, and we are very happy to also welcome the overall winner of the programme, Jonathan Mogotsi, to the Volkswagen family,”
Tasmin Pepper returns this season and will no doubt be looking to continue her success from the Comsol series she competed in last year.
Making his VW Cup debut this Saturday will be Cape Town based Giordano Lupini who managed to notch up 2 wins last year in regional series accross the country and is now looking to take it to the national teams. The 16 year old won’t be the youngest competitor on the grid though, that honour goes to Joshua Dolinschek who will be competing in a Mygale in the Investchem Formula 1600 category.
GTC kicks off its second season of racing and with the weight of mixed reviews of the first season, the series organisers and drivers of the premier series of SA motorsport have much to prove this year.
“Volkswagen Motorsport was a major role player from the inception of the series. But the sport, as well as all the teams competing in it, had to find their feet first. The foundations are now firmly in place which means we are all ready to go racing,” says Head of Volkswagen Motorsport, Mike Rowe.
