2017 Nissan GT-R gets track specced
Nissan has announced that another iteration of the Nissan GT-R is due to debut at the New York Auto Show this April. Despite upgrades across the GT-R range for this model year, Nissan felt it necessary to introduce a third model to sit between the current GT-R premium and the GT-R NISMO models.
The 3rd model, named the ‘Track Edition’, will make use of the same 3.8L V6, producing 421 kW and 633 Nm of torque. Nissan have yet to announce performance figures but it will slot in to the gap between the Premium and NISMO models. Expect a sub 3 second 0-100 km/h time and a top speed around 310km/h.
”The new Nissan GT-R Track Edition gives buyers a specialized model- one true to GT-R heritage and available only by special order” said Nissan Vice President Michael Bunce. ”Building on the major upgrade to every GT-R for 2017, the Track Edition is an amazing package inside, outside and under the skin.”
The Track Edition gains a titanium exhaust as standard and will be fitted with an aggressive front bumper as well as a carbon fibre rear wing. To enhance handling, four-wheel independent suspension will be fitted and tuned by NISMO. As the name suggests, the Track Edition is fully prepared for track days and even employs the use of epoxy adhesives on the body shell joints to supplement the regular spot welds for extra strength. A set of 20 inch NISMO wheels will be the icing on the cake as far as the exterior is concerned. Inside you’ll find unique red and black trim, carbon fibre inserts and motorsport inspired Recaro seats.
Pricing of the GTR Track Edition is expected to start around the R1.7 million mark.
