Award winning Fiat Tipo launches in SA
Fiat has slowly edged its way into the various segments and now has a fresh new entry into the medium-compact market.
The Autobest “Best Buy Car 2016” winner, the Fiat Tipo has now been launched in SA, and with a brief that reads “Skills, no frills” it seems worthy of a closer look.
Available in both sedan and hatch, Tipo comes with three trim levels, three engines and three transmission types, all available at Fiat dealers immediately.
Engines and transmissions
The line-up consists of the 70kW turbodiesel 1.3 MultiJet II, along with the 70kW Fire 1.4 16v and 81kW 1.6 E-torQ petrol engines.
There are also three types of transmissions: 5-speed manual for the 1.3l diesel engine, 6-speed manual for the 1.4l petrol engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission for the 1.6 E-torQ petrol engine.
The sedan will be available in the POP or EASY versions whilst the hatchback will be available in the POP, EASY or LOUNGE configurations.
Stated fuel consumption ranges from as low as 3.3l/100 km in the extra urban cycle.
Boot space is rated at 440 l for the hatchback and 520 for the sedan version, with a low boot sill and step-less load bay for easier stowage of bulky packages.
Accessories
Mopar, Fiat’s reference brand for accessories, services, customer care and genuine spare parts, offers about 70 accessories for the new Fiat Tipo range. Roof racks for kayaks, bicycles and freeboxes have also been developed and are available locally for the Tipo.
Designed in Italy by the Fiat Style Centre, the hatchback looks quite attractive, at least in pictures, so we’re looking forward to seeing what visual impact the Fiat brings with it in the flesh.
All Fiat Tipo models come with a standard 3 year / 100,000km warranty and service plan and a full size spare wheel.
