Fords Fiesta ST200 available in limited numbers

The sharpest version comes with overboost

With the all-new Fiesta ST set to be launched by 2019, Ford has released what is more than likely the final iteration of the outgoing compact hot hatch. The limited-edition Fiesta ST200. Priced at R339 900 it is loaded with performance and cosmetic extras.

The 1.6 litre Ecoboost engine now pushes out 149kW. That’s 15kW up on the standard version and torque is raised by 50Nm to 290Nm. An over boost function is available for up to 20 seconds raising the power by an additional 11kW and 30Nm taking the maximum figures to 160kW and 320Nm.

The final drive has been shortened,  making 0-100km/h possible in 6.7 seconds, 0.2 seconds quicker than the standard ST. Fiesta ST200 is only available with a six speed manual gearbox.

The suspension has been upgraded with bigger anti-roll bars up front, and at the rear a “twistbeam” has been employed to increase roll stiffness by 27%.  The damper rates have also been modified making the already legendary hatch handle even better.

Interior upgrades include heated Recaro sports seats, illuminated scuff plates and rear parking sensors with reverse camera.

160 units of the special edition ST200 have been allocated to the local market, all in the signature Storm Grey metallic finish. ST200 also comes with 17”alloys, red brake calipers and LED tail lights.

At R14 000 more than the standard Fiesta ST and blessed with a long list of extras, this isn’t just a limited-edition dealership special.  Add to this the already long list of standard features such as seven airbags, climate control and keyless entry ST200 offers real value and performance and at the new price is a very competitive prospect in this segment. We wonder if it’s a coincidence that the Fiesta was launched the same week as the Clio RS?

ST200 comes with a four year or 120 000 km warranty and a four-year 60 000km service plan
