Jeep Cherokee updated-new 4 pot engine added
Jeep debuted their latest Cherokee at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, introducing a fresh new design along with a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. The new model aims to spoil the driver with more interior space and comfort, infusing daily practicality with the off-road talent the world has come to expect from the American car maker.
The exterior design is fresh and smartly defines the Cherokee within Jeep’s product line-up. New LED headlamps, a redesigned bonnet, front fascia and new foglamps make their way onto the new SUV, giving it an entirely new appearance. The interior benefits from new Satin Chrome and Piano Black high-gloss accents, reminding the driver that they’re driving something special.
The interior also packs some serious-tech, with the new Cherokee receiving the latest version of Jeep’s ‘Uconnect’ communication system including features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and either a 7” or 8.4” touchscreen display with gesture control, depending on which boxes you tick on the options list.
The model line-up consists of three different engine derivatives, all mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The new 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder engine joins the 3.2 litre Pentastar V-6 as well as the 2.4 litre Tigershark I-4 engine making up the trio. Fuel efficiency is improved by the new rear-axle disconnect technology that reduces the amount of energy lost when 4×4 capability isn’t required.
The new Jeep Cherokee also comes with an impressive ‘drive select’ 4×4 system that allows the driver to choose from three modes; Jeep Active Drive I, Jeep Active Drive II and Jeep Active Drive Lock. Each mode has been optimised to ensure that the SUV delivers the best combination of drive settings to respond to different situations, on and off the road.
The first batch of new Jeep Cherokee’s is expected to be shipped to Europe in Q2 of 2018 with no clear date for SA arrival as yet.
