Nissan Qashqai gets fresh new facelift

Nissan’s Qashqai has aged well since it’s introduction, but Nissan has seen fit to update the SUV for the first quarter of 2018.

The most notable improvement is the addition of Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility technology, which includes features like blind spot warning, emergency braking, forward collision warning, and an ‘around-view’ monitor that uses five cameras around the SUV to create a 360-degree view of the surroundings. This system can also detect moving objects around the car, as well as a cross traffic alert system that detects traffic approaching the SUV while it is reversing.

The interior receives a sporty flat-bottomed multifunction steering wheel, as well as new front seats that offer more support while improving rear passenger visibility. The interior door handles and air-conditioning vents are finished in high-quality materials, with one-touch power window switches and key-fob window controls available on the options list. The NissanConnect touchscreen display receives a new user-interface and is paired with an optional seven-speaker BOSE Premium sound system.

The new Nissan Qashqai is 17mm longer than its predecessor. Boot space is also improved, going from 430-litres to 680-litres once the rear seats are folded. The exterior design carries over a lot from the current model, aside from a new front bumper and the newest take on Nissan’s “V-motion” grille. The bonnet and rear bumper have also been refreshed and are complemented by new 17” and 19” alloy wheels. The halogen headlights are now available with daytime-running LED’s.

Dynamics have also been improved with the Qashqai’s upgraded dampers, stiffer anti-roll bars and the Nissan Intelligent Mobility Active Ride Control System that reduces interior motion when manoeuvring bumps. Additional sound insulation and thicker rear-door glass reduce road-noise and vibrations.
