New Bentley Bentayga Speed is World’s fastest SUV
The freshly launched Lamborghini Urus has just been knocked off the ‘World’s fastest SUV’ throne by the new Bentley Bentayga Speed. Welcome to the beginning of the super-SUV war.
Bentley’s latest product to join their SUV model line is the new Bentayga Speed, a high-performance version of the already-quick ‘regular’ Bentayga. The Lamborghini Urus on the other hand is Lamborghini’s solution to the recent demand for high-performance SUV’s, and it did a great job at it after it set the top-speed benchmark for an SUV at a rapid 305km/h.
As with all rivalries in the motoring world, this achievement was short lived. The Bentayga Speed trumps the Urus’ top speed by a whole 1km/h, bringing it to an even quicker 306km/h. This isn’t all bad news for the Urus, though. The Italian SUV will still accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.6-seconds, versus 3.9-seconds in the Bentayga Speed.
Record claims aside, the new Bentley Bentayga Speed is an impressive piece of kit. It’s 0.2-seconds faster than the regular W12 Bentayga, which it shares an engine with. The 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged W12 produces 467kW of refined power and a meaty 900Nm of torque. The real magic happens in ‘Sport mode’, which has been optimised to provide a more responsive experience in the Speed through tweaks made to power delivery, gearbox reaction and Bentley Dynamic Ride – Bentley’s fully electric active roll control system.
You can identify the new Bentayga Speed by its massive rear spoiler, or its tinted lights and body coloured side skirts. At the back is a set of aggressive tailpipes that provide the exit to the noise of the louder exhaust. The interior receives model exclusive ‘Speed’ badges, a ‘Speed’ treadplate and alcantara leather upholstery. The goodies on the optional extra’s list include 22-way adjustable front seats, interior lighting and carbon-ceramic brakes.
