McLaren Senna GTR revealed in production guise
This is the McLaren Senna GTR, a limited-production, high-performance version of the already insane McLaren Senna. There will only be 75 examples produced, and they’re all spoken for.
The Senna GTR aims to provide a visceral driving experience that’s just shy of a Formula 1 car. This is made possible through the wizardry within the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 which now produces 607kW of power compared to the measly 588kW found in the regular Senna. Throw 812Nm of torque into the mix and you’ve got a serious track weapon at your fingertips.
McLaren is yet to release 0-100km/h figures, but if the regular Senna does it in 2.8-seconds then its safe to assume a figure around the 2.6-second mark. The GTR is equipped with sticky Pirelli slicks and powerful brakes to handle this pace. So powerful, in fact, that they’re capable of 3g of decelerating force which is around 20% more than the normal Senna.
Mike Flewitt, the big boss at McLaren, says the Senna GTR “was designed from the outset to be an extreme track car, but the 2018 McLaren Senna GTR concept suggested how much further we could go and now, free from the constraints of road car legislation and motorsport competition rules, we have pushed the limits of what is technically possible”.
The most noticeable feature on the GTR is its striking aerodynamic set-up. The front splitter and wings are bigger and wider, while a redesigned diffuser and massive active spoiler keep things intimidating at the rear. The result is a whopping 400kg more downforce than its P1 GTR predecessor, bringing total downforce to 1000kg.
Body panels all around the car have been remodelled to maximise efficiency, and a massive front splitter and rear diffuser have been fitted to control air-flow. The Senna GTR saves a further 10kg after the removal of non-essential track features such as air-bags, a handbrake mechanism and an exhaust muffler, bringing the total weight down to 1188kg.
