Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo gets green light for production in 2020
Hot news from Porsche this week after they confirmed production of the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo – an all-electric estate based on the Porsche Mission E concept that recently visited South Africa. Production is anticipated to commence from as early as 2020 following a significant amount of interest shown to the Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo concept at the Geneva Motor Show last year.
The production model of the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo follows a simple four-door four-seat setup, with added practicality for more adventurous customers. The rear seats fold flat to allow even more space at the rear for the driver to load a few golf clubs or some snow skis. The suspension sits higher up and the cladding around the car hints at its rugged, off-road capabilities. Some of the lines and curves around the car are inspired by the bigger-brother Porsche Macan, including the rear hatch and the sleek side profile.
Power is supplied by the same unit found in the regular Taycan, producing a surge of 447kW. Porsche hasn’t provided any official times as yet, but we can expect the crossover to compete the 0-100km/h in under 3.5-seconds, which means that it will be quicker than its main rival – the Tesla Model X. The electric drivetrain also allows an impressive range of 500-kilometers for those long-distance road-trips, as well as a fast charging time. Plug the Taycan Cross Turismo into a charger and it will be full after 15 minutes.
The interior of the concept boasts a massive touch widescreen display that extends just enough for the passenger to control functions such as climate control, media, and programming the satellite navigation. The rear-view mirror features new eye-tracking technology that follows the driver’s eye and displays the most important info on the infotainment screen exactly where the driver is looking.
