Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe gets a facelift for 2019

Mercedes recently treated their GLE-class SUV to a facelift, and now they’ve updated the GLE-class coupe. The facelift includes changes to the exterior, interior, as well as all-new mild hybrid petrol models.

The most noticeable update is the new grille, which is a lot more distinct than before. There are also new headlights that give the face of the GLE-class coupe a clean look.

The interior sees a lot more facelift action. Both the centre console and the dashboard have been renovated. The cockpit receives the new multifunction steering wheel and air-vents as seen on the latest A-class, as well as the latest MBUX infotainment system, relayed across a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch centre display. These screens are controlled using the touchpad on the centre console, as well as through gesture and voice control.

The updated Mercedes-Benz GLE-class line-up will consist of three diesel models alongside two petrol-hybrid models. The entry-level GLC 200 is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol unit, mated to a 48-volt electric motor to provide 143kW and 320Nm. The higher-spec GLE 300 packs a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, also with a 48-volt electric motor, to produce 189kW and 370Nm.

The diesel models range from a 118kW and 360Nm 1.6-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder in the GLE 200d, to a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the GLE 220d and the GLE 300d, producing 141kW and 400Nm and 177kW and 500Nm respectively. Mercedes’ all-wheel drive 4MATIC system is standard across the range.

The final touches to the Mercedes-Benz GLE-class coupe facelift include creature comforts such as the optional ‘Energising Comfort Control’ package that adjusts the climate control, seat massage and interior lighting to the driver’s mood, as well as driving aids, like the updated ‘Dynamic Body Control’ adjustable dampers and the optional air suspension.
