Drive Test: Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 2.0 4×2 CVT
Where most “Cross” vehicles have just slightly raised suspension and plastic bits to give the sense of ruggedness. The Eclipse Cross is a refreshing, and genuine take on this popular lifestyle derivative. I live with one for a week. Here are my findings.
On the Road
The Eclipse Cross, has a remarkably comfortable and quiet ride. Not much road noise inside to speak of thanks to it’s narrow, raised profile. The tall chassis does make it more susceptible to Cape Towns crosswinds but truth be told, I might have been taking those corners a tad too fast anyhow. On our 4×2 model we had on test the fuel consumption was rated at 7.9 however I managed to dip into the mid 7s a few times. More than likely thanks to the smooth 6 speed CVT gearbox. The steering was light and precise at parking speeds and the controls on the steering felt intuitive and easy to use. Just like the Bluetooth which I set up the moment the car arrived.

A List of Features
The features list on the Eclipse cross is quite extensive and made the car convenient and easy to live with. Heads-up display, which shows the speed and cruise control settings, paddle shifts, rear airconditioning duct, heated leather seats, and USB.
It also has Daytime running lights, Head-up display, front and rear parking sensors, and a full-size spare wheel. Another nifty little feature was the rear windscreen which extends quite far down, making rear visibility fantastic even when the windows are all fogged up. Some might say that the LED bar that runs across the rear might be intrusive, but I found it quite quirky and refreshing.

Award winning Design and Execution
So far Eclipse Cross has racked up multiple awards worldwide including Car of the year and design awards. It certainly is an eye-catching and pleasing design. The high haunches and distinctive styling won’t be to alls taste, but I certainly enjoyed having it parked in my drive way.
