R130-million Bugatti Revives EB 110 Spirit
This is the Bugatti Centodieci, and it’s been designed to pay homage to the classic Bugatti EB 110 Super Sport. It’s expected to be revealed at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance later next week. The exclusive model will cost around R130-million, and Bugatti will only be producing 10 models.
The design of the Bugatti Centodieci is very peculiar. It’s very familiar to the modern era of Bugatti, with a lot of styling cues lifted straight of models like the Chiron, Divo and even the R236-million Bugatti La Voiture Noire, which became the world’s most expensive new car when it went up for sale earlier this year. The design also draws inspiration from one of the most iconic Bugatti’s ever made – the EB 110, which, even in the mid-nineties, featured a carbon fiber monocoque, active aerodynamics and an all-wheel drive system. The name EB 100 stands for ‘Ettore Bugatti’, who was the founder of Bugatti, and his 110thbirthday anniversary.
The Bugatti Centodieci is expected to be powered by the massive 8.0-litre quad turbo W16 engine found in the Chiron, except it will be tuned up to produce more than 1120kW of power and 1600Nm of torque. All of this power should be enough to rip the tyres into the pavement and accelerate the new Bugatti from 0-100km/h in just 2.4-seconds before reaching its expected top speed of 420km/h.
The design of the Bugatti Centodieci is heavily inspired by the classic Bugatti EB 110 Super Sport. The most obvious reference to the classic model is thefive circular cut outs that are seen behind the windows on the side. Up front are a set of razor thin headlights and a smaller horse shoe design that sits just above a wide carbon fibre splitter. At the rear is a large aerodynamic wing that hints at the Centodieci’s performance pedigree.
