Volkswagen plans to bring the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup ‘Street Edition’ to US dealerships beginning next year. The production version is based on the Volkswagen Jetta TDi Cup racing series, which runs in the US, and the concept shown off at the 2008 Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) show in Los Vegas.
The vehicle has a similar body kit to the version shown off during previous TDI Cup races. Modifications were made to the front bumper, side skirts and rear valance, and large, red, caliper brakes were added. The brakes are covered by 18-inch Charleston wheels. Sport suspension and sway bars were taken from the 2.0 TSI.
The Street Edition is powered by the same 2,0-litre turbocharged diesel engine as found in the 2.0 TDI Sportline model, which means 103 kW @ 4 000 rpm and peak torque of 320 N.m at 1 750 rpm. The Street edition will be available with either a manual or 6-speed paddle-shift DSG transmission.
Inside, Interlagos cloth-lined sport seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel complete the package.
Pricing for the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup ‘Street Edition’ begins at US$25 000 and is due in US showrooms in January 2010.
Local tuners will no doubt have their eyes set on the Street’s body kit and we’re sure it’s only a matter of time before we see Mk5 Jetta and Golf’s running around with TDI Cup styling on our roads. Take a look at the gallery below of the ’08 Jetta TDI Cup car.
