Hybrid Lexus LC 500h to use downsized V6
More Geneva goodness, this time in the shape of the Lexus LC 500h which combines that swoon-over curvature with an updated version of the firm’s trademark hybrid system.
This could mean that under the bonnet, rather than the unassisted 5.0-litre V8 engine, will be a smaller V6 engine (as found in the IS 350) wired up to a new-generation Lexus hybrid system now known as Lexus Multi Stage Hybrid System.
Power from the Lexus LC 500h will exceed that 348kW of the V8 version and with the additional weight of the batteries it will need to. Like the LC 500 revealed at Detroit Motor Show earlier this year the hybrid version will use a similar version of the 10-speed automatic gearbox along with the same carbon fibre construction.
The Lexus LC is expected to arrive in South Africa towards the end of 2016 but there is no guarantee that the premium-priced hybrid version will fit into the same plans. If Lexus can make a business case for it the LC 500h will be the only hybrid (mainstream) sportscar on local soil.
