New Hyundai Grand i10 has arrived, but without i10

The good news is that Hyundai has a new Grand i10. The bad news is that the Atos-succeeding i10 model will be discontinued.

“We had a relook at the Grand i10 range, change the specification levels and added a new entry derivative with a 1-litre engine and the Motion specification level. The result is a hatchback model with a variety of derivatives that offer exceptional value,” says Stanley Anderson, sales and operations director of Hyundai Automotive South Africa.

The new Grand i10 is available in six derivatives, with two engines shared between them. The first being an all-new 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine producing 48kW of power and 94Nm, and the second being the 1.25-litre 4-cylinder engine, 64kW and 120Nm. Both engines are available with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed auto transmission. Fuel consumption has been claimed at 5,9 litres/100 km, and 6,9 litres/100 km for the 1.25-litre derivatives with the four-speed automatic gearbox, while the 1-litre engine is 5,4 litres/100 km in manual, and 5,9 litres/100 km in automatic.

The design of the new hatch adopts Hyundai’s latest design language through the hexagonal-grille, aligning it with the likes of the new Elantra. The optional alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights and chrome grille-details on the higher-spec models add an elegant touch to the exterior, which is available in 8 different colours.

The interior boasts a 256-litre boot, which can be increased to 1202-litres when the rear-seats are folded. Seats are finished in cloth or leather, depending on spec, with the top-spec model sporting red cloth-seats and matching red details on the instrument and door panels.

Standard equipment includes 14”-alloys, a multifunction steering wheel and front fog-lamps. Customers are also spoilt with options such as Bluetooth connectivity, keyless entry, park distance control, electrically heated and folding side mirrors, USB and AUX ports.
