Volkswagen Polo Vivo gets modern

With South Africa’s best-selling passenger car reaching the end of its lifespan, many competitors have been gaining slight advantages in the market. This is why there’s a new Polo Vivo in town, and it’s taking back the crown.

Since its introduction to the market in 2010, more than 193,343 units of the Vivo have been sold across South Africa. VW hopes to surpass these figures with the new Vivo, which is based on the previous Polo model, aka Polo-5.

The model range consists of three lines, namely the entry-level Trendline, Comfortline and the Highline. There will also be a GT model, as before, as the flagship Vivo.

The new Volkswagen Polo Vivo model range will be launched with three equipment lines, Trendline, Comfortline and Highline. The hatch body version is also available in a top of the range GT derivative. Models can be differentiated by the wheels, with standard 14”-alloys and optional 15”-alloys on the Trendline and Comfortline, 16”-alloys on the Highline and 17”-alloys on the GT.

Standard kit includes a four-speaker setup, SD/USB/Bluetooth connectivity and a radio, whereas the higher spec models come with a six-speaker setup, a touchscreen infotainment system and AppConnect Software. Remote control locking and an alarm come standard across the range, addressing the safety issues synonymous with the Vivo.

Customers will appreciate the dimensions and space offered by the new Vivo. It is 3,972mm long, 1,682mm wide and 1,462mm tall with a boot capacity of 280-litres which can be increased to 952-litres after folding the rear seats. The interior adopts VW’s latest design theories, like the steering wheel, instrument cluster and the ‘Modular Infotainment System’.

The Volkswagen Polo Vivo is available with three 4-cylinder petrol engines and a 3-cylinder TSI engine. The 4-cylinder engines vary in output from 55kW-77kW, while the 1.0-litre TSI, exclusive to the GT model, produces 81kW. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard across the range, with an optional Tiptronic transmission available on the 1.6-litre and TSI unit.
