X-Range influx continues with BMW X4

This is the new BMW X4, the coupe sibling to the BMW X3, and one of many more BMW X-models that are ready to hit the streets.

Expected to make its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the second-generation X4 is a massive improvement over its predecessor. The design is dramatic, and while the face may be of resemblance to the new X3, the rear is pleasantly non-recognisable.

It’s also lower and 81mm longer than the old X4, giving it a sportier stance, which is supplemented by the twin exhaust setup that will be standard on every model. There will also be a new X4 M40i as well as an M40d model, each with a 6-cylinder set-up.

The interior is on par with the X3, with features like ambient lighting, leather seats and premium materials for the trim. There are also more options available when compared to the previous X4, like a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control as well as heated and cooled seats. Leg-room increases by 27mm at the rear and boot capacity has been increased to 525-litres and 1430-litres with the rear seats folded down.

Technology is abundant, like the latest iDrive system which is relayed to the driver via a 6.5”-display. The optional Professional system adds a 10.25”-display with integrated gesture control, as seen in the 7-series. ConnectedDrive services are also available, which allow the car to connect with devices like iPhones, Android phones and smartwatches.

Engine options will be shared with the X3, with a 20d, 30d, M40i and M40d derivative almost guaranteed, all paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Each model will also come standard with M-Sport suspension as well as speed-sensitive steering. M-Sport brakes and adaptive suspension make their way onto the options list.

Driver-aid technology such as Cruise Control and Collision and Pedestrian Warning with City Collision Mitigation systems come standard, while buyers can choose options such as Active Cruise Control, the Driving Assistant Plus package – which includes the Steering and lane control assistant and crossing traffic warning system – and Parking Assistant Plus.
