C-Class retains relevance for 2018

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been heavily tweaked in an effort to remain competitive going into 2018 and will make its world debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

The facelift includes new front- and rear-bumpers and improved headlights and taillights. Although the revisions on the exterior are subtle, the interior sees the biggest changes, borrowing kit directly from the C-Class’s bigger brothers, the E and S-Class. The new front bumper can be specced in either a silver trim strip, a chrome-plated trim strip or a three-part chrome strip. The AMG Line will now come with a diamond radiator grille, a new AMG-spec front bumper, and a new rear diffuser.

The instrument cluster will be available as either a 5.5”-screen between regular dials, or an optional fully digital 12,3”-display, as seen on the new E-Class. The central infotainment display is also available in different sizes, from the standard 7”-display to a massive 10,25”-display, with integrated controls through touch-sensitive panels on the steering wheel.

The interior will also feature Mercedes’ latest ‘Energizing Comfort Control’ system, which uses special elements such as air-conditioning, seat massage functionality, air scents and heated seats to improve the mood of the driver and passengers.

It is also expected for the C-Class to inherit a few new engines from the E-Class range. Although Mercedes has not officially announced these improvements, we can expect the new C-Class to gain the OM654 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine. This would improve the efficiency, smoothness and performance when compared to its predecessor engine.

This engine will also most likely be available in three derivatives, namely C200, C220 and C300, each varying in their states of tune and power output. The other new engine will be the new Renault 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, producing around 116kW of power, that will be shoe-horned into a C180.
