Toyota Supra pics leaked!
Toyota fans will be happy to find out that the specs of the highly-anticipated Toyota Supra were leaked earlier this week by a Japanese Car Magazine.
A copy of the magazine article was posted onto an online forum, revealing the figures of the sports car. A 3.0-litre straight-six engine resides under the bonnet, kept company by a turbocharger. The result is an output of 246kW of power and 450Nm of torque, increased to 500Nm with the assistance of the overboost function.
Power is fed to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission, while the possibility of a manual gearbox has not been confirmed. The result is a 0-100km/h run in just 3.8-seconds.
The article also revealed the dimensions and weight of the Supra, which will be 4.38m long, 1.86m wide and 1.29m tall with a 2.47m wheelbase, weighing in at just under 1500kg.
Toyota employees have been releasing small bits of information over the last few years regarding the new Supra, with the most important bit being that the car will be sold without any Toyota badging. Instead, it will spearhead the Gazoo Racing sub-division into existence.
There will also be four derivatives of the sports car, namely the Toyota Supra, the Supra GR, the Supra GR Sport, and the Supra GRMN. Each model will be sold at different price-points and will be differentiated by variations in performance and suspension.
The next-generation BMW Z4, which was co-developed with the Supra, is expected to go on sale from the beginning of 2019. However, Shigeki Tomoyama, boss of Toyota Gazoo, hinted that the new Supra may only go on sale from the second-quarter of 2019.
“The new car has to appeal to the existing owners first,” Tomoyama said. “The old cars had a straight-six engine, twin turbos and rear-wheel drive; the new car must have the same philosophy.”
