Meet the new Rimac. A 15 Million rand mega(Watt) car!

The sequel to Rimac’s hypercar, the Concept One, is expected to be revealed later this week at the Geneva Motor Show. Here’s everything you need to know about the successor to the high-tech coupe.

The headline features of the ‘Concept Two’ are its 120kWh battery and its level 4 autonomous driving software, which means that the car is able to drive itself without the attention of a driver, although the presence of a driver behind the wheel is still necessary.

Insiders revealed that performance targets for the new model were adjusted after the announcement of the new Tesla Roadster, which accelerates from 0-100km/h in 1.9-seconds in its slowest form.

Chief Operating Officer of Rimac Automobile, Monika Mikac, said that the new model will be more comfortable and expensive than its predecessor. She added that it will be “even more high-performance” than the Concept One, which delivers 928kW of power and 1600Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 2.5-seconds. The Concept Two will also have a longer range than the previous model, although Mikac claims that most customers are not worried about factors like range.

While only 10 units of the Concept One were built, the next Rimac will have a production run of 100 vehicles, with Mikac anticipating sales of 20 units in 2018 after the car is revealed. The ‘Concept Two’ will still compete with the likes of Koenigsegg and Bugatti and will carry a similar price-tag of more than R16,5-million. Convertible and track-focused variants will follow production of the standard coupe after a few years.

While Rimac is interested in growing its vehicle offering, their mainstream of revenue comes from being a parts-supplier to other manufacturers. Rimac supplies the battery for the Koenigsegg Regera and will be supplying the battery and infotainment system for the upcoming Aston Martin Valkyrie.
