Regular Chiron too slow? Meet the Chiron Sport!

If there was ever a car that didn’t need a ‘Sport’ version, it was the Bugatti Chiron. Luckily, if the regular version was too mundane for you there’s a new Bugatti Chiron Sport.

The slimmed down Chiron was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show this week. The hypercar will retain its 1103kW of power from the quad-turbo W16 motor, except the Chiron Sport comes with a host of lightweight parts that reduce the total weight of the car by 18kg. There is also a new suspension setting in ‘Handling’ mode that has been engineered to optimise track-performance.

There’s a new quad-pipe exhaust at the rear to differentiate the Chiron Sport from its less athletic siblings. Other distinguishing features include a set of lightweight wheels, a redesigned window over the carbon fibre intercooler in the engine bay and carbon fibre windscreen wipers, the latter appearing on a car for the first time ever.

All of these lightweight parts reduce the kerb weight of the car by 18kg, bringing the total weight to 1978kg compared to 1998kg on the standard Chiron. The real magic happens once ‘Handling Mode’ is engaged.

Revised damper control and new rear differential settings allow the Chiron Sport to deploy all of its power on corners on the road or track. There’s also a new dynamic torque vectoring system that further allows the Chiron to optimise its all-wheel-drive setup.

Customers are offered a wide variety of specs and options when speccing out the interior of their Chiron, and the Sport now comes with even more options to choose from such as new anodised black finishes for the switchgear and the rear lights. There is also Chiron Sport stitching for the Alcantara and leather trim.

If all this seems unnecessary, its because it is.   But in the world of automotive Super Trumps, necessity and reality don’t always see eye to eye.
