Cover lifted Off New Ford Focus Hatchback

Ford seemingly stunned the world after they revealed the fourth-generation of their Focus hatchback, coinciding with the models 20th anniversary.

The design of the new Focus plays it safe relative to its predecessor, with smooth lines and clean folds all around the car. Jordan Demkiw, the exterior designer of the new Focus says: “Proportionally the Focus has matured a lot. We’ve tried to replicate a traditional sports car with its squat stance and pouncing rear haunches. Add in the longer bonnet and there’s a more powerful look.”

The new Ford Focus is 20% stiffer thanks to its new C2 platform and gains independent rear suspension along with Continuously Controlled Damping, which monitors different dynamic aspects and adjusts the damping for optimum comfort. The driver also has access to three new driving modes; Normal, Sport and Eco.

The new model also gains Level 2 autonomy through adaptive cruise control, stop-go, sign recognition and lane-keep features. The tech list doesn’t end there. The new full-LED headlights are equipped with a matrix beam function as well as a heads-up-display that can be viewed with polarised eye-wear.

The interior of the new Focus gets the newest SYNC3 infotainment system, an 8-inch central touch display as well as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth connectivity. There is also an electric handbrake and a gear-selector dial that add a premium aura to the interior.

Engine options on the new Ford Focus include an entry-level 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine available in three derivatives of tune, producing 63kW, 74kW and 92kW of power. There is also a new 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine available with 110kW and 134kW of power. There are also three new EcoBlue diesel engines; two 1.5-litre engines producing 70kW and 88kW as well as a sportier 2.0-litre 110kW model.

The new Ford Focus is expected to arrive in South Africa at the end of 2018.
