Hennessey Adds More Power to Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk
If there was ever an SUV that needed more power, it definitely wouldn’t be Jeep’s latest Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. For starters, the Trackhawk packs almost 522kW of power from its V8 engine, making it one of the most powerful SUV’s that has ever existed. It’s also capable of reaching 300km/h with ease. That’s 300km/h. In a family SUV.
These numbers caught the attention of American tuning company Hennessey, who recently found a way to shoehorn their Hellcat supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine into the Trackhawk.
The upgraded model, dubbed the HPE1000, includes an entire collection of upgrades geared at making the SUV an absolute monster. The supercharger receives a total overhaul, increasing the boost all the way up to 14psi. The result is a power and torque output of 755kW and 1300Nm. There are also stainless-steel headers, upgraded high-flow fuel injectors, an upgraded air induction system and a high-flow supercharger bypass valve.
The combination of all of these modifications and upgrades allow the Hennessey Trackhawk to complete its 0-100km/h run in just 2.8-seconds. Take it to a drag strip and it’ll do a quarter-mile in 10.5-seconds, exiting the quarter-mile at 214km/h.
Currently, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk carries a price tag of around R1.1-million in the UK. The prices for the Hennessey Trackhawk are yet to be released, but if we’re gauging it against the company’s other products then we can expect the super-SUV to be priced well above the R1.7-million mark. Hennessey also has a slightly less powerful HPE850 kit for those who can’t fathom the idea of doing 0-100km/h in 2.8-seconds in an SUV.
Standard kit on the Hennessey Trackhawk include a set of custom Brembo brakes, as well as bespoke titanium-finished 20-inch wheels, wrapped in sticky Pirelli tyres. Exterior kit includes front and rear Hennessey badges and HPE1000 badges on the sides, while the interior gains a Hennessey HPE1000 serial numbered plaque signed by John Hennessey himself, as well as ‘powered by Hennessey’ premium floor mats.
