Mercedes-Maybach SUV Concept Leaked

The showstopper that Mercedes has been keeping under wraps for the Beijing Motor Show has been leaked online! Pictures and details of the first-ever Mercedes-Maybach SUV, the Ultimate Luxury Concept, were leaked on a Chinese automotive website.

Mercedes-Maybach claims that the design of the concept shows how “typical strengths of an exclusive high-end saloon and an SUV can be combined.” The styling of the concept is certainly unique and will indubitably divide the opinions of Maybach-fanboys around the world.

The leak also revealed the technical details of the concept. The SUV will adopt a fully-electric powertrain, consisting of an 80kWh battery powering four-electric motors to produce a behemoth 550kW of power. The 0-100km/h times weren’t included in the leak, but the top speed will be limited to 250km/h.

The interior of the concept certainly checks out with its name, with Ultimate Luxury being the theme all around the cabin. There are four individual seats, rose gold details and a Chinese tea set in the back.

Like most concepts, the Mercedes-Maybach will not go into production, although it will contribute to the design of the production Maybach SUV, which interestingly still hasn’t been confirmed yet. Mercedes-Benz CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche gave media a hint towards the SUV at last years Detroit Motor Show, saying: “I’d like to say you will be seeing it, but I’ll leave it at that.”

Mercedes’ Head of Design, Gorden Wagoner, added that Maybach could also produce signature models, similar to AMG, that were not based on existing cars. The Ultimate Luxury seems to be the first new-age Maybach to take this approach and will most likely take the title for being Mercedes-Maybach’s first SUV. “Mercedes Maybach stands very much for modern luxury,” Wagoner said. “Where other super-luxury competitors take a more traditional approach. The difference is that modern luxury is a bit more tasteful.”
