KIA Stinger Confirmed for SA

Kia’s most powerful car has been confirmed to make its local debut towards the end of this following unexpectedly high public interest. The multiple award-winning Kia Stinger surprised visitors at the SA Festival of Motoring at Kyalami last year and has proven to be immensely successful in foreign markets.

“Unlike any KIA that has come before it, the Stinger is the embodiment of an everyday dream car,” says Gary Scott, CEO of KIA Motors South Africa. “From its birth as the GT concept, through the years of tuning and refining it on the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife, no detail was spared to create a true GT.  It is not about outright power, hard-edged dynamics and brutal styling at the expense of luxury, comfort and grace. Instead, it’s a driver’s car equally suitable for spirited long-distance driving and everyday enjoyment.”

The standout names behind the creation of the Kia Stinger include Audi’s ex-designer Peter Schreyer, now Chief Design Officer and President at Kia. The chassis and drivetrain of the Stinger were refined on demanding tracks like the Nürburgring Nordschleife, making it a big deal for Kia.

South Africa will only get the Kia Stinger in the hottest GT guise, with power being supplied by a 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine. An impressive power output of 272kW and 510Nm of torque, sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission, will allow the hot Kia to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.9-seconds before topping out at 270km/h, earning the title of the most powerful and fastest Kia ever produced.

A limited-number of Kia Stinger’s will make their way to South Africa in August 2018. More information and specifications will be announced by Kia South Africa at the end of April 2018.
