Upcoming BMW iX3 Teased Ahead of Beijing Reveal

BMW has attempted to build some buzz around their upcoming reveal at the Beijing Motor Show where the all-new BMW iX3 will make its debut to the world. They posted a short video on Twitter showing that the upcoming all-electric will indeed be named the iX3, as well as the models new, solid grille that will replace the iconic BMW kidney grille design.

Technical info has been scarce and unreliable lately, although it will be available once it launches on Wednesday in Beijing. Using current ‘I’ models and rivals like the Jaguar I-Pace as a gauge, we can expect the production model of the electric SUV to feature a range between 400 and 500 kilometres per charge.

The BMW iX3 will be one of many new electrified BMW’s to hit the market. After years of roughing it out in the electric vehicle market with the i3 and i8, BMW will be more than keen to release a few new models to compete with Audi’s upcoming e-tron and Mercedes’ imminent EQ-range. We can expect the iX3 to be followed up by electric versions of many other BMW models, specifically an all-electric 3-Series when the next-generation is revealed later this year.

BMW Chairman, Herald Kruger, promised that the BMW iX3 will arrive by 2020 at an annual company press conference. BMW also trademarked every badge from iX1 all the way up to iX9, indicating that we may see a huge variety of electric SUVs from the German manufacturer.

Another upcoming i-model is the BMW Vision Dynamics Concept that was debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show late last year. The electric four-door coupe will be moulded into a production-ready version and will gain the i4 badge, directly rivalling Elon Musk’s Tesla Model S. The BMW i4, like the iX3, will be revealed in 2020.
